THE PDF BOOK LIST

You will notice that I comment on the Audible version in many cases. I try to immerse myself in the content by listening to the Audible version while I read the physical book. At least for me, it helps eliminate my wandering mind. Try it if you haven’t; especially if you “don’t like to read.”

– Paul Frank, President & CEO

GREENLIGHTS

By Matthew McConaughey

Alright, alright, alright! This is one of my favorites of all time. Nothing but perspective on life, but such a unique message. The Audible version is a MUST. Matthew reads the book. His cadence and delivery is amazing. If you don’t read much, get the Audible on this one and let me know how you like it!

WHO MOVED MY CHEESE?

By Spencer Johnson, M.D.

I have given out more copies of this book than any other. A powerful yet simple paradigm about dealing with change, or not! This book is used by some of the best business schools on the planet. It is an easy read and also has a kid’s version for those with junior entrepreneurs in training!

THE SOCIOPATH NEXT DOOR

By Martha Stout, Ph.D.

This was given to me 15 years ago by a dear friend that was going through some difficult times. Within the first few pages I was blown away. It explained THOSE people. The ones that I always asked; How could he say that? How could she do that? Since my first read I have been able to better identify the 4% of the population that fall in to this category. A very important read for business and life. Thank you Mikie!

OWN YOUR PAST CHANGE YOUR FUTURE

By Dr. John Delony

I was able to meet and talk to Dr. Delony in 2022. I happened to pick up his book at a result. This is a must read along with the Audible. John does an incredible job delivering his message on Audible. Powerful tools and perspective about business and life.

ATOMIC HABITS

By James Clear

Great read that gets into the science of habit building. James Clear provides real data and real tools that you can apply immediately.

THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN THE WORLD!

By Og Mandino

Another small book with a powerful message. It is great on Audible as well.

NEVER SPLIT THE DIFFERENCE

By Chris Voss

I was exposed to Chris Voss by a good friend who worked with him at the FBI. I first watched his MasterClass and then read this book. Fascinating stories and material. The techniques, they work, no question! It is also a great Audible version.

CAN’T HURT ME

By David Goggins

What can you say about Goggins? Not to be confused with David Goggins (If you know, you know!). David tells his story in a way that is, well, as unapologetic as can be. If you are offended by language, you might want to pass or get the “clean version.” But then again, if you are offended by his message, it might be time to look in the mirror. The Audible version of this is supplemented by a brilliant Podcast type interview that goes beyond the content in the book. I am reading and listening to his follow up book now, “Never Finished.” It will be on this list soon.

EXTREME OWNERSHIP

By Jocko Willink and Lief Babin

Jocko Willink and Lief Babin explain what is missing in society today, ownership and responsibility. I have had the privilege to meet with Jocko and I use the content and philosophies in this book daily. GOOD!

OUTLIERS

By Malcolm Gladwell

TALENT IS OVERRATED

By Geoff Colvin

I am often asked by new parents about my opinion regarding enrolling their children in school early or waiting. Geoff does an incredible job breaking down the data and facts. If you or anyone you know is asking that question, have them read this book! It is all you need to know. It does not provide opinions or antidotes, it provides the raw data that will impact their decision.

This is a fascinating read on management. Jim Collins breaks down the data and explains how management theories apply and provides the vision of the target, sustainable culture beyond the ego and presence of the leader. A must read for anyone involved in management and/or leadership.

GOOD TO GREAT

By Jim Collins

SAN FRANSICKO

By Michael Shellenberger

I like to read books that provide substantial support for the opinions and arguments that the author provides. Empty and unsupported observations and opinions are interesting, but dangerous to apply in my opinion. Michael Shellenberger’s perspective is unique. He started on one side of the issue and was enlightened by the facts and his thinking was transformed. This book is fascinating in its supporting data that explains, clearly, what does not work in the effort to current some of our society’s most critical issues.

THE TIPPING POINT

By Malcom Gladwell

I could have an entire section for Malcom Gladwell books only. You can’t go wrong with any of his titles. The Tipping Point has some similar points and themes that are contained in “Talent is Overrated.” It is a valuable and engaging read. NOTE: I have never listened to one of Gladwell’s books on Audible.

SEASON OF LIFE

By Jeffrey Marx

This is an amazing story that summarizes my views and approach to coaching. Jeffrey Marx does a fantastic job with this story. If you are a coach, be it Little League Baseball or in the NFL, you can benefit from this book.

THE GIFT OF FEAR

By Gavin DeBecker

Akin to Chris Voss and “Never Split the Difference,” Gavin DeBecker provides some incredible insight on society, crime, and your interaction with both. Valuable perspective and a book that is important, in my opinion, for young women and men to read.

Book cover of On Fire by John O'leary

ON FIRE

By John O’Leary

I had the privilege of hearing John O’Leary speak in person. He instantly became one of my favorites. Unbelievable perspective from a man that has overcome challenges that few will ever face. Why me? I ask myself that many times a day. Another MUST read! You may want to check your excuses at the door before you read this one. Enjoy! Oh, and follow John and L.I.T!
